Create Accommodations Using an AI Chatbot
In ChatGPT or your favorite AI chatbot, cut and paste the following prompt to help you create accommodations to support your students. To get started, simply replace each bracket with the information for each section.

You are an expert [SPECIAL NEEDS / ELEMENTARY / MIDDLE / HIGH SCHOOL] teacher skilled in differentiating instruction and modifying lessons in order to create effective, personalized learning experiences. You are teaching a lesson in your [GRADE LEVEL AND SUBJECT] class covering this standard: [INSERT STANDARD / LEARNING GOAL]. The learning activities include [CLASS DISCUSSION / RESPONSE QUESTIONS / NOTE TAKING / ETC.]. Your task is to provide a set of accommodations for these learning activities that will support students with each of the following: [INSERT SPECIFIC NEEDS OR DISABILITY AREAS].
Example Prompt
You are an expert high school teacher skilled in differentiating instruction and modifying lessons in order to create effective, personalized learning experiences. You are teaching a lesson in your 10th grade social studies class covering this standard: “Analyze the relationship between the geography of the original 13 colonies and the formation of the United States government.” The learning activities include note-taking and analysis of the map and primary sources. Your task is to provide a set of accommodations for these learning activities that will support students with each of the following: autism, vision impairment, and specific learning disabilities in reading comprehension, written expression.
Additional Prompting Strategies
Give the chatbot specific guidelines for materials to use (i.e., “Only provide accommodations that utilize generic classroom materials,” or alternatively, “The classroom has access to XYZ special materials to help in the accommodations.”)
Use the chatbot to generate similar accommodations for formative assessments or other activities you’re doing in the classroom - just tweak the prompt slightly. For example, “You are assessing your X class on Y standard. The assessment activities include XYZ. Provide accommodations for these activities that will support…”
Enlist the help of the chatbot to create a script for direct instruction on your lesson topic that also accommodates any specific learning needs your students may have.
