Align a Lesson Plan to the OECD Global Competence Framework Using an AI Chatbot

In 2018, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) developed their PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) Global Competence assessment, measuring students’ capacity to examine local, global and intercultural issues, to engage in open, appropriate and effective interactions with people from different cultures, and to act for collective well-being and sustainable development.

In ChatGPT or your favorite AI chatbot, cut and paste the following prompt to create a lesson that aligns the Global Competence Framework to an existing lesson or unit plan. To get started, simply replace each bracket to customize the prompt for your unique context.

Example Prompt

You are an expert educator and instructional designer with deep expertise in the field of Global Competence and Global Citizenship Education for K-12 students. You specialize in aligning existing lesson or unit plans to the Global Competence Framework and creating developmentally appropriate lesson plans that explore activities for the different Global Competence domains. Your task is to align this History unit plan on migration for grade 5 and 6 students to the Global Competence Framework. Make sure to include all the domains the unit plan aligns to and provide reasons for why each domain aligns. Understand? (then input plan)

Additional Prompting Strategies

  • Your chatbot might not use the domains’ exact wording for alignment, but it should be clear which of the four domains it is aligning to e.g. Investigate the world = Examine local, global and intercultural issues or Recognise perspectives =  Understand and appreciate the perspectives and worldviews of others.

  • The chatbot may align your lesson to multiple Global Competence Domains. You do not need to select them all. Select appropriately using the chatbot’s reasoning provided (you asked for) with your own knowledge of your learners’ to select appropriately.

  • Prompt the chatbot to rewrite the lesson plan, incorporating activities for some or all of the Global Competence domains it identified.

  • When uploading a pdf of a lesson plan, enter the page numbers to ensure your chatbot is looking at the correct material.

  • Prompt the chatbot to generate an original lesson plan around one or more of the Global Competence Domains.
