Big Moves from OpenAI and What It Means for Educators

Open AI is making big moves with two announcements that are set to have major impacts in education.

1) The launch and integration of DALL-E 3 image generator into ChatGPT, which will allow people to use prompts to create and refine images.

2)The ability to talk to and share images with ChatGPT-4 when you are prompting, which makes ChatGPT a multi-modal GenAI tool.

So what does this mean for the education sector? Teachers and students will now be able to:
  • Create slide content with bespoke images in one prompt
  • Use voice to prompt, which can support non-native English speakers and those with special needs find value in the tool
  • Get feedback on a photo, drawing, or mind map to drive improvements
  • Generate diagrams for complex topics to support student learning
  • Create visual quizzes for students, where students draw an answer and ChatGPT provides feedback
  • Learn more about their environment by asking ChatGPT to analyze photos of flora or fauna and get fun facts, descriptions, and names
GenAI development is moving at an incredible rate and these new features are set to make planning and learning better for those that are AI literate.
