Plan a School Field Trip Using ChatGPT

In ChatGPT or your favorite AI Chatbot, cut and paste the following prompt to help you plan all aspects of a school field trip. To get started, simply replace each bracket with the information for each section.

Field Trip Prompt

You are an expert educator, proficient in creating hands-on learning experiences. Plan a field trip to [location] in [city] for my [number] [grade level] students learning about [topic]. Include the educational aspects such as: identify the educational objectives, make sure the objectives align with [standards] for [grade level] students, and how the trip will be tied to the curriculum. Field Trip Example Prompt

You are an expert educator, proficient in creating hands-on learning experiences. Plan a field trip to the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC for my 30 second-grade students learning about the Solar System. Include the educational aspects such as: identify the educational objectives, make sure the objectives align with NGSS standards for 2nd grade students, and how the trip will be tied to the curriculum. Also, make sure to cover the administrative aspects such as: the logistics about the location, materials required, transportation, chaperones required, a permission slip, and an email for chaperones.

Make the Prompt Work for You

• Use ChatGPT for help no matter where you are in the planning process. Haven't even decided on a location yet? Ask, "Where can I go on a field trip for my [X] students who are learning about [X]?" Already planned the big details? Ask ChatGPT to draft you a permission slip. 

• Have ChatGPT help you with the educational aspect of the trip. Use it to help draft lessons leading up to the trip so that students are prepared and can get the most out of this special learning experience.

• Enlist the chatbot to generate activities, vocabulary lists, or fill-in-the-blank worksheets that students can do before, during, or after the field trip.

• Ask ChatGPT for a script to ask your administrator for permission for the trip if this is your first time planning a field trip.
