CBS Morning News: “AI Use in Schools: Ban or Fan?”

AI for Education was featured on CBS Morning News where CEO Amanda Bickerstaff debated whether schools and universities should ban student AI use.

She shared our perspective on why teaching AI literacy is crucial for preparing students for a future that is fast approaching. Rather than banning these tools outright, she advocated for a balanced, thoughtful approach to help students understand and use AI responsibly when developmentally appropriate.

She also shared one key point that has become clear to us after training so many educators: using GenAI effectively requires critical thinking and analysis, which remain essential skills for our young people.

As an added bonus, one of the women that helped Amanda get camera-ready has a freshman that goes to the High School of Art and Design, which AI for Education has worked with to build AI literacy for their educators.

Thank you to CBS Morning News and Professor James Taylor (not the one you're thinking) for facilitating this important conversation about the intersection of AI and education.
